Most Common Questions

How much does a membership cost at Visions?

Memberships start at $15.30 a week. There's a few options to choose from - including upfront, fixed term memberships (tend to be cheaper but less flexible) or direct debit memberships (no contract, but a tiny bit more expensive). Our direct debit gym-only membership is $19.95/week. Group training only is $39/week, and gym + group training combined is $49/week — all direct debit, no lock-in. Only the $19.95/week option has a joining fee.

Happy to save money and pay upfront? We've got 1, 3, 6 and 12 month options too, with 6 and 12 months working out cheapest per week. Full pricing on our Memberships page: https://www.visionsfitnesscentre.com/memberships

Am I locked into a membership?

Depends which type. Our direct debit memberships have no minimum term at all — cancel whenever you like, for free. Upfront memberships (1–12 months) are paid in full for the period, and you're committed to that period, with no suspending or refunding partway through - but you save big time.

That trade-off is intentional: upfront is cheaper per week precisely because you're committing to the full term, while direct debit costs a bit more for the flexibility of walking away anytime. Pick whichever suits your situation - it's all clearly laid out and we can talk you through it, too. Details in our Membership Agreement: https://www.visionsfitnesscentre.com/membership-agreement

Are there joining fees or other hidden fees?

Certainly no hidden fees - it's all on our membership page. Our only membership with an added fee is the direct debit gym-only membership ($19.95/week). It has a one-off $50 joining fee - no it's not a symbolic fee we deduct or negotiate down - it's there for various reasons.

There's no other cheeky fees. Across the board, we don't do sneaky fine print — what you see on our Memberships page is what you pay: https://www.visionsfitnesscentre.com/memberships

Is it easy to cancel my membership?

Yes — for direct debit memberships, cancellation is easy, free and can happen any time. It just has to be done in writing (email or in person), not over the phone. Simply submit a form through our membership management page.

Upfront memberships auto-renew at the end of the term, so cancelling or switching just needs to happen before your renewal date. Again, it's easy, just use the form on our membership management page: https://www.visionsfitnesscentre.com/membership-management. Is Visions Fitness Centre open 24/7?

Not quite, but essentially — we're open 5am to midnight, 365 days a year. The gym's closed for everyone between midnight and 5am.

During the day we've got staffed hours (mon–thu 6–10am & 3–8pm, fri 6–10am & 3–5pm, sat 7am–2pm) and unstaffed hours where you scan your membership card to get in. Full breakdown on our Contact page: https://www.visionsfitnesscentre.com/contact-us

How big is the gym?

Visions spans two levels — a full gym floor with cardio and weights, a dedicated group training room, plus changerooms with showers. And A/Professor Mark Merolli runs Technologic Physio out of our treatment room, downstairs.

Best way to get a feel for it is to pop by some time - but in the meantime, here's our online gym tour: https://www.visionsfitnesscentre.com/tour

What makes Visions better than other gyms?

Let's start by saying all places that support people being healthy and active have our support. There are so many different approaches - they all have a place and we won't go throwing shade at competitors for the sake of it.

So what makes us different (and in our eyes, better)? We're family-owned, independent and local — not a franchise, not a chain. We're just not chasing the same playbook as the big guys.

You get real people behind reception, who know you and treat you as a person, not the next sales number. In terms of memberships, that also means upfront and honest options, real flexibility and no sneaky terms and conditions.

Being independent also means we get to choose the best equipment - equipment we know will serve our members best (and our members get to vote for equipment, too).

How is our Group Training different? We write our own classes based on our trainers knowing who our GT contingent are, where they need to work, what motivates them. We sit down each week and discuss it, plan it, write it, deliver it. It's us - and we're going to give you one-on-one attention you won't get at other places. And that's fine - those other places are great in their own way. But we love our approach the most.

Don't just take our word for it — have a look at our member reviews: https://www.visionsfitnesscentre.com/#reviews, or read "Finding the Best Gym in Hawthorn — The Ultimate Guide for 2025": https://www.visionsfitnesscentre.com/resources/2025/1/31/finding-the-best-gym-in-hawthorn-2025-edition, where we break down what to actually look for.

Memberships & Pricing

What happens if I don't use my membership — can I get a refund?

Ahh. That only question. We wish we could make everyone attend - but ultimately that's on you. We try to keep track of attendance where we can - we might reach out where possible, but we also won't chase you into the gym - some people like having breaks, that's cool - each to their own. But we won't be harassing people. And no, we don't refund unused time on any membership.

This applies whether you've got an upfront membership rolling through its time or a direct debit membership you forgot to cancel. If you commit to a 12 month upfront membership but your circumstances change after 3 months - unfortunately we can't do anything about that. If we did, the integrity of our fortnightly direct debit would be ruined - and it would be unfair on the people paying more for flexibility. As always, details in our Membership Agreement.

Will my membership price ever go up?

It can, yes — but we're required to give you notice first. Direct debit members get at least four weeks' notice of any price change, and upfront members are told in writing before their next renewal if the price is changing.

We don't lock in a price forever on any membership type, but we're upfront about it rather than springing it on you.

Can I switch my membership type later — like from gym-only to gym + group training?

Yes, switching is straightforward — just get in touch before your renewal date if you're on an upfront membership, or any time if you're on direct debit.

Just note this can't always happen immediately - our staff need to process it, meaning it can only be actioned in the next available staffed period. Requests sent while we're unstaffed kick in at the next staffed period. Head to our membership management page to sort it.

Do I pay for my Visions membership card?

No, your first access card is free. If you lose it, you'll need a replacement, which costs $25. Let us know as soon as it's lost or stolen so we can deactivate the old one straight away.

You can pick up a new card by popping in during staffed hours. Worth doing quickly since you can't get in during unstaffed hours without it.

Getting Started

Does Visions offer a free trial?

Yes — 10 days free, including both gym access and group training. No pressure, just come try us out and see if it's your kind of gym.

We require a $25 card deposit. If you decide not join after your trial, we'll happily refund it if you come by in person within 30 days (and the fob's in good condition). If you decided to continue on with a membership at Visions, you can request the deposit back within 30 days of starting. We can't provide a deposit refund beyond 30 days - so please don't expect a refund 2 years later...

Access the trial on the Free Trial page.

Where is Visions Fitness Centre and is there parking?

We're at 185 Burwood Road, Hawthorn (3122) - just a hundred metres or so from Bunnings and an easy walk from Glenferrie or Hawthorn stations. There's plenty of street parking around that rotates regularly. There's a bunch of 10 hours spots along Lynch Street that are often free before 7am and after 5.30/6pm. Keep an eye on clearways on Burwood Road, too.

Best to check current street parking signage nearby, or hop on a tram/train — we're pretty central. Come say hi or check us out first via our gym tour.

Access, Hours & Safety

Is it safe to train at Visions during unstaffed hours?

Yep - the gym's built with unstaffed-hours safety front of mind. There are duress buttons around the gym (entrance to the group training room, gym floor, and both changerooms) that alert our staff and security company immediately, plus an AED on site, monitored emergency exits, and wearable duress pendants at reception you're welcome to grab any time, especially if the gym's quiet. We also have 22 CCTV cameras around the venue.

Card access means only current members can get in outside staffed hours too - so it's not a free-for-all off the street. Our tailgate alarm detects multiple entries when only one card is tapped.

No place can guarantee total safety, but we do our best and take it very seriously. We're always here to talk further if you have any concerns.

Can teenagers join Visions Fitness Centre?

Yes - 14 and 15 year olds can join with a signed parental consent form and can train unsupervised during staffed hours only or train with a guardian during unstaffed hours. 16 and 17 year olds can train during both staffed and unstaffed hours with parental consent signed off.

Can I bring a guest to Visions?

Yes, but only during staffed hours - a member of our team needs to sign guests in and take payment, so it's not something you can do during unstaffed periods.

If you want to bring a mate along, plan around our staffed hours (mon–thu 6–10am & 3–8pm, fri 6–10am & 3–5pm, sat 7am–2pm). Check current hours on our Contact page.

Gym Etiquette & Facilities

Do I need to bring my own towel?

Yep - a hand towel is a must at Visions, no exceptions. It's part of how we keep the gym clean and pleasant for everyone. All members need to carry and use one.

Once you're done with a piece of equipment, wipe it down with the disinfectant and paper towel we provide, too. Simple stuff, but it's part of what keeps Visions feeling like a place you actually want to train.

Is there somewhere to store my stuff while I train?

Yep, we've got lockers upstairs and downstairs in both changerooms, plus open, unlocked shelving if you just need somewhere to put your things temporarily during a workout.

Our honest advice: don't bring valuables to the gym if you can help it. Lockers are a good deterrent but we can't guarantee against theft, so leave the expensive stuff at home where you can. Having said that, theft doesn't seem to occur - our community is too awesome.

Training, Classes & Support

What's the difference between a gym membership and a group training membership?

A gym-only membership gets you into the gym floor whenever we're open, but not group classes. A group training membership gets you into classes but not general gym access. Want both? You'll need the combo membership.

You can also pay casually for either service. Details on the Group Training page: https://www.visionsfitnesscentre.com/group-fitness-training-hawthorn-gyms and Memberships page: https://www.visionsfitnesscentre.com/memberships
